As chief investment officer and chairman of the firm’s investment committee, Jonathan M. Bergman, CFP®, EA, directs a team of portfolio managers and associates focused on finding the most efficient and cost-effective ways to implement client portfolio strategies. He oversees more than $1 billion in client assets, including all aspects of investment strategy, portfolio management, due diligence, and manager selection.

The senior client service executive in our firm, Jonathan also manages a wide range of client programs, including asset allocation programs, investment analyses, cash flow projections, retirement plans, and income and estate tax strategies. He is responsible for services to multi-family accounts including corporate executive advisory programs and fiduciary and not-for-profit clients.

Jonathan’s successful efforts to reverse a mutual fund’s proposed fee increase were profiled in The New York Times and Directorship Magazine (see Deutsche Gets a Governance Lesson) in 2006. His advice on private equity investing for high-net-worth families was highlighted on the Alternative Assets Network. His views on working with highly concentrated stock positions have been cited in multiple publications. Jonathan has appeared on Bloomberg Television (On Demand). He also has been quoted by financial columnists for BusinessWeek, Fortune, Dow Jones Newswires, TheStreet, Investor’s Business Daily, Entrepreneur, Money magazine, Bankrate.com, Fidelity.com, Fox Business, Daily Finance, Parade magazine, and the Reuters news service.

Jonathan is a former Chairman of the Wisconsin School of Business Alumni Board of Advisors. He also sits on the advisory board of a private equity partnership. Jonathan is a member of the Financial Planning Association-New York chapter (FPA-NY) and was a presenter at FPA-NY financial education programs in 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2009, 2010, and 2011, Jonathan was a panelist at the SuperReturn U.S. Conference. He also appeared on a panel at the 2011 Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst Limited Partner Summit.

Following his promotion to vice president in 2006, Jonathan became the first general executive officer other than the firm’s founder and president, Larry M. Elkin. Jonathan served as a client service manager from 1999 to 2006. He became a full-time associate in June 1997, and began his career at the firm in 1994 as a summer intern.

Jonathan helped launch Palisades Hudson Asset Management in 1997.

A 1997 graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Business, Jonathan is based in the Scarsdale, N.Y. office and regularly meets with Palisades Hudson clients across the United States and abroad.

Jonathan is a regular contributor to Sentinel, the firm’s quarterly newsletter on personal finance. His writing includes “The Romney Trust: A Masterpiece” (April 2012), “How To Prepare For A State Default” (January 2011), “Dude, Can You Spare a Trillion?” (September 2010), “Responding To The Haitian Earthquake” (February 2010), and “Changing Strategy During The Game” (October 2009), among many others.
