Shomari D. Hearn, CFP®, EA, is the senior client service executive in charge of our Florida practice. Though based in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office, he regularly meets with Palisades Hudson clients across the United States and abroad.
As vice president, Shomari is responsible for firmwide technical quality, advanced research, and professional staff development. Shomari also provides a wide range of services to our clients, including asset allocation programs, investment analyses, cash flow projections, retirement plans, tax strategies, income tax return preparation, accounting, and estate administration. He is a member of the firm’s investment committee.
Shomari is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Greater Miami and the Financial Planning Association of Broward County. He is also active in the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, where he serves on the Small Business Committee. Shomari is a graduate of the Chamber’s Leadership Fort Lauderdale program (Class XIII), and recently served as the 2010-2011 curriculum chair for the program (Class XVII).
Shomari joined Palisades Hudson as an associate in 1998 after working in the Small Business Center at Metropolitan Life. He served as a Palisades Hudson client service manager from 2003 to 2011. In 2005, Shomari established the firm’s first branch office, in Fort Lauderdale.
A New York City native, Shomari is a 1997 graduate of Duke University, where he obtained a B.A. in economics and a certificate in markets and management study. While in college, Shomari spent one summer as a law clerk for Coudert Brothers in New York and another as an investment management intern for a Washington, D.C.-based money manager.
Shomari is a regular contributor to Sentinel, the firm’s quarterly newsletter on personal finance. His writing includes “Winding up a Qualified Personal Resident Trust” (May 2012 online edition), “No Interest In Foreign Accounts” (November 2011, online edition), “Do Incentive Trusts Encourage Responsibility?” (June 2011), “Planning For A Child With Special Needs” (October 2010), and “Business Breakups Needn’t Be Difficult” (June 2010). He also was a co-author of “Choosing A Section 529 College Savings Plan” (April 2002). He has been quoted by financial columnists for CNN Money, Forbes Magazine, Sun Sentinel, Palm Beach Daily News, and Financial Advisor Magazine.
