President, Palisades Hudson Asset Management, L.P.

Larry M. Elkin, CPA, CFP®, has provided personal financial and tax counseling to a sophisticated client base since 1986. After six years with Arthur Andersen, where he was a senior manager for personal financial planning and family wealth planning, he founded his own firm in Hastings on Hudson, New York, in 1992. That firm grew steadily and became the Palisades Hudson organization, which moved to Scarsdale, New York in 2002 and to Stamford, Connecticut 15 years later. In 2005 the firm expanded to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a branch office that became the firm’s official headquarters in 2017. The firm also added offices in Georgia in 2008, Oregon in 2012, and Texas in 2016. Larry is now based in Fort Lauderdale.

As president of Palisades Hudson, Larry maintains individual professional relationships with many of the firm’s clients, who reside in more than 30 states, from Maine to California, as well as in several foreign countries. In addition, he works closely with the firm's Entertainment and Sports Team and is a producer member of Film Florida. In 1997 Larry established the organization’s investment advisory business, which currently manages more than $1.5 billion.

Larry wrote several of the chapters in both of the firm’s books. For The High Achiever's Guide to Wealth, he authored Chapter 1, "Anyone Can Achieve Wealth," and Chapter 19, "Assisting Aging Parents." His contributions to Looking Ahead: Life, Family, Wealth and Business After 55 included Chapter 1, "Looking Ahead When Youth Is Behind Us" and Chapter 4, "The Family Business." Larry is also the author of Financial Self-Defense for Unmarried Couples (Currency Doubleday, 1995), which was the first comprehensive financial planning guide for unmarried couples. He serves as the editor and publisher of Sentinel, the firm’s newsletter, and was the lead author of the firm’s blog, “Current Commentary,” during its run from 2009 to 2021.

Larry has been regularly interviewed by national and regional publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes, Bloomberg and the Los Angeles Times, and he has made nearly 100 radio and television appearances. Larry has also been the subject of professional profiles by print and online publications including Westchester magazine, VoyageMIA, Financial Planning and Mann on the Street. He served as president of the Estate Planning Council of New York City, Inc. in 2005-06. In 2009 the Council presented Larry with its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award, praising his service to the organization and “his tireless efforts in promoting our industry by word and by personal example as a consummate estate planning professional.”

Larry received his B.A. in journalism from the University of Montana, and his MBA in accounting from New York University. Larry was a reporter and editor for The Associated Press from 1978 to 1986. He covered government, business and legal affairs for the wire service, with assignments in Helena, Montana; Albany, New York.; Washington, D.C.; and in New York City’s federal courts in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
